With the first Passover seder on Monday, April 10, now is the time to commemorate the Israelites’ Exodus from Egypt. Passover books are a great way to teach children about this important holiday in the Jewish community. Fill up your plate with matzah and gather the children around to read one or more of these great stories!

2. The Matzo Ball Boy by Lisa Shulman

On the morning of the Passover seder, a lonely bubbe (a grandmother) decides to make a matzo ball boy to keep her company. When she checks the pot to see how he is coming along, the matzo ball boy jumps out. Before long, a yenta and her children, a rabbi, and a fox are all on a mad chase to catch the matzo ball boy!

 

3. Sammy Spider’s First Passover by Sylvia A. Rouss

Sammy Spider watches longingly as the Shapiro family celebrates Passover. He wants to help Josh find the afikomen (hidden matzah), but his mother reminds him, “Spiders don’t celebrate Passover.
