With the first Passover seder on Monday, April 10, now is the time to commemorate the Israelites’ Exodus from Egypt. Passover books are a great way to teach children about this important holiday in the Jewish community. Passover is a time for families and friends to celebrate their faith and shared history. Tomie dePaola’s simple text and beautiful illustrations provide insight into this special holiday for young readers.
2. The Matzo Ball Boy by Lisa Shulman
On the morning of the Passover seder, a lonely bubbe (a grandmother) decides to make a matzo ball boy to keep her company. When she checks the pot to see how he is coming along, the matzo ball boy jumps out. Before long, a yenta and her children, a rabbi, and a fox are all on a mad chase to catch the matzo ball boy!
3. Sammy Spider’s First Passover by Sylvia A. Rouss
