Bags of Hope Brings Holiday Cheer to Foster Children
Find out how one of our customers are giving the gift of hope.
We believe that good stories are contagious; they spark hope and spread truth. Hence, we want to share a story about a wonderful client of ours that is sure to inspire!
The holiday season is typically a chaotic time. What gifts are we going to give? What are we going to get? The season is a whirlwind of presents and ornaments, family and friends, pumpkin pie, and candied yams. It is very easy to get caught up in the chaos and forget about all of the people who are in need. That being said, this season is also the perfect opportunity to show appreciation and give thanks!
“Bags of Hope” is an annual orphan care project that challenges us to be more selfless during the holiday season. For the fourth year in a row, they have provided a little extra hope for foster children in Rhode Island and Massachusetts to make their holiday’s something to be treasured.
Most children in the foster care system carry their belongings from home to home in large black trash bags. In their first year, Bags of Hope planned to put together 30 duffle bags. Not only did they provided duffle bags for a total of 100 children, they filled the bags with small, thoughtful gifts such as books, Bath & Body works products, Pillow Pets, fleece blankets, slippers, DVDs, and pajamas.
This year they are putting together duffle bags for 2,500 children! Sixty-seven of these bags will also be sent to children in Uganda. The bags and their contents are paid for by donations and community fundraisers. Just recently, organization ambassadors baked 400 pies to fundraise for the duffles — how amazing!
We were truly inspired by the selflessness that Bags of Hope exhibits and the work that they are doing to care for their community. We hope that Max Lucado’s The Oak Inside the Acorn puts a smile on 200 little faces this year.
Thank you for inspiring us and for letting us share your story, Caron!
One Response to “Bags of Hope Brings Holiday Cheer to Foster Children”
I am so blessed to know about bags of hope and to be involved. I just found out last Christmas how many orphans there are herein RI. I sponsored two children and hope to sponsor more this Christmas. You see I know first hand what it is like to be an orphan, because I spent most of my childhood as one. However I was blessed to meet my biological Mom and family. I have been walking with the Lord for a while and I have been the one to start the heritage of faith for my family. I guess what the devil meant for evil God has turned for his good. I proclaim my entire family to be saved. We don’t often understand things but we have to make due with what we have and continue to reach out to others with the gospel and good deeds to bring glory to God.
